Pizzarova is one of Bristol’s most loved independent pizza brands, and they’ve built a loyal following. We’ve been proud to support them from the early days, starting with their first couple of sites and now working across five locations.
Our work together spans waste management and energy procurement. Also, we’ve introduced Pizzarova to our insurance partner, Hayes Parsons, to deliver a quality commercial insurance solution.
The challenge
As Pizzarova grew from a single site to a multi-location business, their operational demands grew with them. Managing waste, energy and insurance across multiple sites, needed a more structured, sustainable approach.
Waste management
Pizzarova found that some waste management wasn’t being handled as efficiently as it could be.
An outdated segregation plan meant certain waste streams — including pizza dough — were going into general waste, leading to overweight charges and avoidable costs.
Ongoing regulatory changes, such as Bristol City Council removing bins from certain areas, required quick alignment whilst keeping costs manageable.
Energy procurement
The energy crisis created significant uncertainty for Pizzarova, with costs rising and supply conditions changing rapidly.
As a growing business, they needed a long-term energy solution that would bring cost stability and align with their sustainability ambitions.
The opening of a new site in Bath required full utility connectionsto ensure a smooth, on-time set-up.
Insurance
Having suffered several claims that caused interruption and increased costs to the business, Hayes Parsons collaboratively worked with Pizzarova and a range of insurers to drive competition amongst insurers and deliver suitable terms, advice and an understanding regarding Pizzarova’s risk mitigation and wider operations was required.
With Pizzarova planning to enhance its multi-site offering, partnering with a long-term insurer with reduced costs and a better claims record was essential to avoid increased costs in premium spend or interruption following future claims.
Our solution
We took a hands-on, collaborative approach to work closely with the Pizzarova team to understand the specifics of each site and build solutions that genuinely fit how they operate.
Waste management
We reviewed and updated the waste collection schedule across all sites to better align with each location’s operational needs.
Improved segregation was introduced across the board. A dedicated pizza dough food waste bin, for example, eliminated overweight charges and meaningfully improved Pizzarova’s sustainability credentials.
When Bristol City Council changed its approach to bin provision, we managed the transition to bags and smaller containers — keeping operations running smoothly and ensuring Pizzarova remained fully compliant. We continue to support them through any future regulatory changes as they arise.
Energy procurement
During the energy crisis, we moved quickly to secure short-term contracts that offered stability whilst the market was volatile. Once conditions settled, we proactively transitioned Pizzarova onto fixed, long-term contracts — green-sourced and aligned with their sustainability objectives.
We provide ongoing, in-house contract management to ensure cost stability and continued green credentials across all five sites.
For the new Bath location, we delivered the full utilities connection, including gas pipes and site infrastructure — managing suppliers and the end-to-end process to ensure energy was ready on time.
Insurance
Over several insurance periods, we have personally taken time to truly understand the business; its challenges, opportunities and plans. We have proactively supported Pizzarova with expansion plans, providing advice whilst driving competition amongst insurers at the appropriate time, to ensure the premium spend is competitive.
By providing regular support and thoroughly explaining the policies in place, Pizzarova has a clear understanding of its arrangements and how they can financially indemnify them if the business suffers an incident or interruption.
The results
Our partnership has delivered measurable efficiency improvements to Pizzarova’s operations, and we will continue to support the business as it grows.
